The Process Analyser Engineer is responsible for providing specialist engineering and technical support for projects and site support in Europe and the Middle East. This includes Project Development and Quality Control for Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC), Environmental Compliance, Quality Systems, compliance with EC Directives, development of standards and international collaboration activities.
The role is based within a group of Engineering Specialists located at Fawley near Southampton; however the EMEEL organization is independent from the Fawley site.
Early Project Development and Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for projects including developing the design basis and design specification prior to engineering.
Quality Control and Audit for Project EPC ensuring compliance to company and industry standards.
Supporting the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
Participate in Safety and HAZOP reviews.
Providing guidance for the sizing, selection, process engineering and design for process analysers in liquid and gas service using Spectroscopy (UV, vis, IR, TFIR, laser, Raman and MS), Chromatography, physical property (distillation, flashpoint, cloud point, density etc.) and water related analytical technologies as well as fire and gas detection systems.
Providing guidance for sizing, selection, process engineering and design for fast loops, sample conditioning systems, sample recovery systems to meet the requirements of Analytical measurement.
Providing guidance for: Reliability analysis and Equipment Strategies; reporting and stewardship for safety and / or environmental measurement systems and other maintenance programs; setting test and calibration intervals; maintenance technical support for troubleshooting, reliability improvement and performance monitoring.
Setting and maintaining company standards and best practices: participating in the Global Process Analyser Network; leading or participating in workgroups to develop best practices; participating in the worldwide “Community of Practice” SharePoint discussion groups and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of technology and legislation changes and advising management of the impact of change.
Educated to degree level in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent with typically 10 years professional experience.
Extensive experience in the discipline of Process Analysers with an Apprenticeship/Traineeship background, continued higher education / professional development and typically with 15 years experience.
Attained Chartered Engineer professional qualification or country specific equivalent. Chartered Engineer as defined by the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) document ‘UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence’, available on the ECUK Web Site.
Have a sound understanding of International Engineering Standards and will be required to develop a similar level of understanding of Engineering Standards; be familiar with EC Directives.
Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of sizing and selecting process analysers together with a basic knowledge of process engineering, P&IDs, fluid properties / dynamics and material technology.
Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of fastloop design, sample conditioning system design, sample recovery systems and experience with HVAC systems.
Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of Process Connection requirements for process analysers and manual sampling systems.
Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of manual sampling system design, sizing and selection.
Have a detailed knowledge and understanding of fire and gas detection systems.
Have EPC Project Experience.
Have a strong interest in process analysers, gas and fire detection and manual sampling systems and be able to exploit developments in technology in order to enhance plant performance and integrity.
Have good team building and communication skills.
Continued Professional Development and Career advancement is an expectation for the Engineering Specialist role. Training will be provided consistent with the requirements of the job; however most of the core skills identified are a pre-requisite for the position.
